I transformed an ordinary image into something unexpected. Here, I have a sort of triptych. Using software, I made few thoughtful color selections to an ordinary photograph of a Spanish lavender plant. It is now something quite different. Suddenly, a plant becomes a Rorschach ink blot. In the center of what I call the “fiesta” version, the darker colors reveal a humanoid with striking eye sockets. Its “companion” appears center left. But these are what I see. Other people may see very different things. In the “yellow” version, recognizable figures or objects are not as easy to detect. Indeed, each transformation conveys their own unique and powerfully passionate energy.
The fiesta version brings to mind thoughts of a wild event, like a party or a moment of unrest. When I look at the yellow version, I think of untamed energy that has just started to burst out into the world. In this way, the fiesta and yellow versions represent the beginning or the end of the other. Both began with the same seemingly peaceful, static image. Now, they are dynamic, tension-filled abstractions. What they communicate in their new forms is entirely up to the unique perspectives of the viewers.
